After the landmark Supreme Court ruling that legalized marriage in all 50 states, a majority of Americans believed that the LGBT individuals were granted basic protections under law.

Three years later (in 2018) it was still legal in 31 states to fire, evict or refuse service to individuals based on their sexual orientation. The Ad Council, in partnership with the Gill Foundation, set-out to confront this misconception head on by creating the campaign, “Beyond I Do” that highlighted stories from real families impacted by discriminatory action across the U.S.

We created one of these stories, told through the words of Andrew’s mom, who recounts the affect on their family when he was suddenly fired from his teaching job for being gay.
